WEBWIRE

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — July 2008 — iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), a global provider of services that unify the management of enterprise mobility, today announced that the company has joined the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), a pioneer in global Wireless Broadband roaming for public Wi-Fi networks.

iPass was the first company to surpass 100,000 enterprise-class Wi-Fi hotspot locations earlier this year and has existing roaming relationships with many of WBA’s current 38 members. The company makes mobility simple and affordable for many of the world’s largest companies by combining worldwide remote and mobile broadband access with comprehensive management of connectivity, devices and costs.

“With the world’s largest virtual network comprising 3G mobile broadband, Wi-Fi hotspots, hotel Ethernet, and dial-up, iPass is committed to the WBA’s mission of improving roaming across multiple networks and technologies,” said Michael Moore, vice president of business development at iPass. “We are particularly excited about the WBA’s increasing focus on emerging areas of growth such as mobile WiMAX networks and dual-mode handheld devices.”

The WBA is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, and iPass is one of 11 new members including Comfone, Connection Services, Freedom4, MACH, NOMAD, Quiconect, Syniverse, Unwired (Australia), Verisign and YTLE—a unique mix of leading roaming providers and operators offering wireless services across Wi-Fi, WiMAX and mobile broadband networks.

“Internet roaming across various wireless broadband technologies has been a key focus area for WBA. The WiMAX technology is fast catching up and is soon expected to be embedded in devices like laptops and mobile phones. Similarly with proliferation of dual mode Mobile and Wi-Fi devices, our effort is to facilitate seamless authentication and roaming across multiple devices and networks. A rapidly expanding membership and ongoing collaboration projects with other industry bodies will help WBA to work closely with the wider industry ecosystem to help our members address the growing demand from end-users for seamless wireless broadband services,” said Mr. Prateek Pashine, Chair of WBA.
