Reduction of greenhouse emissions, affordable electricity, energy efficiency and increased renewable fuels

Wisconsin Power and Light (WPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE: LNT) applauds the complicated and important work recently concluded by the Governor’s Task Force on Global Warming. In a report released today, the Task Force outlined an aggressive agenda for reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in Wisconsin.

“This was tough work but a challenge that brought disparate voices together around the issue of reducing our impact on the environment,” said Barbara Swan, president of Wisconsin Power & Light and a key member of the Task Force. “We will all need to work together not only in meeting the aggressive goals outlined by the Task Force, but to also protect the pocketbooks of consumers as we march down the path to a green future.”

The recommendations parallel some of Alliant Energy’s recently announced efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The company offered the following steps, to be taken upon approval of its proposed expansion of the Nelson Dewey Generating Station, to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 3.5 million tons a year:

* Close its oldest coal plant in Sheboygan
* Invest more than $1 billion in new wind power for Wisconsin customers
* Increase the use of bio-fuels at its proposed Cassville generating plant
* Increase its energy efficiency savings by 50 percent
