Carrier’s new 3000 Refrigeration Ton (RT) Evergreen® 19XRD dual compressor centrifugal chiller represents cutting-edge heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry technology. It is Carrier’s largest single-unit cooling capacity chiller employing non-ozone depleting refrigerant HFC-134a to be manufactured in Shanghai, China. Carrier Corp. is a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX)

Carrier’s Global Research and Development (R&D) Center in Shanghai developed and engineered the Evergreen® 19XRD chiller for large airports, shopping malls, commercial complexes, factories and district cooling plants. It will debut April 9-11 at the “China Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Exhibition,” China’s largest industry exhibition.

Carrier will manufacture the Evergreen® 19XRD in China for both the local and global market.

The new chiller contains Carrier-patented technology designed to improve indoor air quality and provide environmental benefits. It has China Standard Certification Center certification as an energy-saving product.

The dual-compressor and large cooling capacity Evergreen®19XRD chiller achieves up to a 7 percent improvement in integrated part-load efficiency. In a large commercial building that requires 12,000 RT cooling capacity and operates 180 days per year, the chiller can reduce annual electricity usage by approximately 400,000 KwH, the total annual electricity consumption of 222 Shanghai families.

“The successful launch and customer demand for the Evergreen® 19XRD chiller demonstrates the world-class capabilities of our research and development center in China and its ability to support Carrier’s global leadership in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry,” said Ross B. Shuster, president, Carrier Building Systems and Services (BSS) Asia.

Carrier has invested more than US$190 million in China. In addition to the opening of the Global R&D Center in 2006, Carrier established a Global Compressor Center in Shanghai in 2004, and in 2006 opened an air-conditioning factory in Chengdu.

Among the company’s landmark projects in China are HVAC contracts for 70 percent of Beijing’s 2008 Olympic venues and related facilities, including the renowned ’Water Cube’ National Aquatics Center and ’Bird’s Nest’ National Stadium.

“We are confident about the market prospects of the Evergreen® 19XRD chiller, as well as its development in China,” said Shuster. “We look forward to further strengthening our presence in China and continuing to invest in this high-growth market”
