Large-Scale Cable Modem Deployment at Least Two Years Away in China
Cable modem service will become a long-term revenue driver for most cable operators in China, but large-scale deployment is still two or three years away, reports In-Stat (http://www.in-stat.com). As digital cable conversion has had most of the resources available to cable operators tied up, CMTS deployment and cable modem service are currently only available in a handful of locations. Cable modem service is an important part of the triple-play strategy set out by Chinese cable operators, however.
A recent report by the high-tech market research firm found the following:
* The number of cable broadband subscribers in China will increase from 2.69 million in 2007 to 8.16 million in 2012.
* Cable broadband coverage in China will expand to 26 million households by 2012, representing a good market opportunity for CMTS vendors.
* Cable modem shipments will grow from 677,000 in 2007 to 1.58 million in 2012.
