Verizonís Support for California Nonprofit Groups Exceeds $8 Million in 2007
273 Grants Promote Domestic-Violence Prevention, Literacy, Healthcare and Education in Arts, Culture and Technology Throughout California
Verizon pledged more than $8 million to California nonprofits this year for programs that will combat domestic violence, improve healthcare and promote education in technology, literacy, the arts and culture throughout the state.
Funding went to a diverse group of organizations including Peace Over Violence ($300,000), the California Indian Museum and Cultural Center ($99,000) and Childrenís Hospital of Los Angeles ($47,140).
The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications and one of the largest corporate foundations in the world, awarded more than $69 million in grants in 2006.

Central American Resource Center - $25,000
East Los Angeles Womenís Center - $25,000
Marin Services for Women - $25,000
San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center - $25,000
