Rolls-Royce wins share of IAE V2500 order from US Airways

Rolls-Royce will share in an order from US Airways for V2500 engines to power up to 153 Airbus A320 series twinjets.

The order includes engines for 78 firm aircraft, with a value to Rolls-Royce of over $400 million. Deliveries begin in November 2008.

The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE) in which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder. IAE’s other partners are Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.

The 22,000 – 33,000lb thrust V2500-A5 is available on the A319, A320 and A321 family, as well as the A319 Corporate Jet.

More than 1,400 V2500-powered aircraft have been delivered, and the worldwide fleet has accumulated over 50 million flying hours.
