Juniper Networks Announces New Product Enhancements to Further Enable the Delivery of IPTV
Continued Advancement and Innovation in Routing Portfolio and SDX Results in New Features to Address Triple Play Service Requirements.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., November 7, 2005 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced new product enhancements that further enable the efficient and cost-effective delivery of Triple Play services over a converged network infrastructure. The new product features are Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for the E-series Broadband Services Router and SDX Network Resource Manager for the E-, M- and T-series family of IP routing platforms, which can be utilized individually or together to provide an assured user experience.
“When we were planning to introduce IP-based broadcast and on-demand video services, we chose Juniper because they are leaders in IP reliability and performance,” said Bjørn Netland, broadband program manager, Telenor. “Now with these new features, the Juniper solution is even better suited for advanced Triple Play environments, enabling us to increase the value of the services we offer to consumers while keeping our operating costs at a minimum.”
“Juniper’s customer-centric approach complements Siemens’ video application in building broadband video networks that enable service providers to accommodate all types of broadband video content without requiring costly, parallel networks,” said Andreas Mueller-Schubert, president, Fixed Network Solutions, Siemens. “The intelligence inherent in this approach enables these networks to scale to meet future requirements and services for our common customer base. Their steadfast commitment to continuous advancements, especially with regards to video solutions, is one of the many reasons that our strategic partnership continues to be so successful.”
Juniper Networks is the “IP” in IPTV
Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for the E-series Broadband Services Router optimizes efficient, cost-effective delivery of Triple Play services, including IPTV. This new feature is an industry first that enables service providers to flexibly distribute bandwidth between the services offered to an individual subscriber. In contrast to other platforms that require service providers to pre-provision bandwidth per service, the E-series flexibly and efficiently adjusts service bandwidth based on subscriber activity, which reduces operational complexity and expense.
The Juniper Networks Service Deployment System (SDX) is a robust, customizable application for the E-, M- and T-series routers that enables service providers to rapidly create and deploy IP services to hundreds of thousands of subscribers. The Network Resource Manager is the newest SDX feature enhancement and provides end-to-end, policy-based management of video distribution to ensure efficient, quality delivery of service. The SDX Network Resource Manager performs Call Admission Control (CAC) per video session request to assure the appropriate bandwidth is available to deliver the video stream with the required quality of service as specified by the studio and provider content distribution agreements.
Working with Juniper Networks E-, M- and T-series routers, the Network Resource Manager dynamically constructs Label Switched Paths (LSPs) from the video source to the network edge and automatically re-assigns allocated bandwidth for each video LSP based upon the utilization of the connection. In the event of an outage, the SDX Network Resource Manager can transparently re-route LSPs or acquire the video content from a secondary source without disrupting the viewing experience.
“Juniper’s architecture is the industry’s best solution for cost-effectively delivering video content from multiple sources over a converged network infrastructure with an assured user experience,” said Andrew J. Audet, vice president, Cable and IPTV Products Business, Juniper Networks. “Service providers are choosing Juniper to support Triple Play services, such as IPTV, because we deliver a high-capacity, standards-based infrastructure that is both application agnostic and flexible enough to accommodate scale and changing service requirements.”
