Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), its employees and retirees have raised $1 million for the 2007 United Way Campaign in Brevard County. The announcement was made this morning by Howard L. Lance, chairman, president and CEO, at a meeting of the company’s campaign leadership team. The $1 million goal set by the company is the largest ever achieved by a Brevard County organization.

“Harris employees have earned a reputation for generosity and for caring about the communities where they work and live,” Lance said. “This monumental milestone in our commitment to the United Way of Brevard County reflects the amazing community spirit and leadership of all who participated. Each time we have raised the bar, our employees have responded. We are very proud to be able to make this donation to assist outstanding agencies that support the needs of thousands of people right here in Brevard County.”

In addition to fund-raising activities for its United Way Campaign, Harris created a “Feeding Others” program that will bring hot meals to hundreds of disadvantaged women, children and the elderly for a full year. Multiple stages in the Feeding Others program were triggered as Harris achieved fund-raising milestones in its campaign at the $900,000, $950,000 and $1 million levels. Since all milestones were achieved, Harris will provide additional funding to the United Way to support various food programs for an entire year. Those programs include all meals for 624 children at the Child Care Association Centers (Head Start Programs) and the 400 women and children at Serene Harbor shelters. Funding also will provide a warm meal on 40 Saturdays for individuals in the Meals on Wheels program in Brevard County.

Harris also provided almost 12,000 pounds of can goods to Brevard County food banks as part of the United Way’s CANthropy contest in which teams of employees built structures out of can foods. United Way of Brevard’s Campaign will officially end on December 13. Contact Susan McGrath at 631-2740 for more information.
