Version 7.0 of Arena-flow® sand core engineering software now available

Sand core engineering for metal casting has taken another technological leap forward with the release of version 7.0 of the Arena-flow computer-aided engineering (CAE) software for core making and tooling design. Available from Ashland Casting Solutions, a business group of Ashland Performance Materials, a division of Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH), the software includes a new solver that delivers improved performance as well as experimental data agreement.

“Arena-flow version 7.0 is extremely useful to the industry: from project setup to engineering solutions, this is the fastest and most accurate sand core engineering software ever released to the public,” said Peter Blaser, global product manager of Arena-flow, LCC. The improvements now available in version 7.0 provide users with several additional tools to improve productivity, reduce costs, shorten development timelines and eliminate costly process design errors.

”The additional development of a new, intuitive and more user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) has also generated very positive results from our current user base in the Americas, Europe and Asia,” said Peter Mothes, manager - global design services, Ashland Casting Solutions. In addition, advances in the vent interface plus image and animation manipulation provide users with significant enhancements that have removed complexity and added functionality.

The software is designed to deliver a complete picture of the entire core-making process including the blowing, gassing and purging cycles, as well as the capability to analyze the virtual cores before investing significant time, money and material in the core-making process. Arena-flow software also allows tooling manufacturers to validate optimum designs in virtual space to ensure that cold box tooling is optimized the first time.

Arena-flow technology was developed by Arena-flow, LLC of Albuquerque, N.M., in conjunction with General Motors, NASA, the Department of Energy and most recently, Ashland Casting Solutions. The new Arena-flow computer-aided engineering software technology can be accessed by software license agreements as well as contract engineering projects conducted in Ashland Casting Solution’s Design Services Center.
