Harbor Oaks Boarding School Renovates for Counseling Staff, Students
MARS HILL, NC -- Harbor Oaks Boarding School is pleased to announce the completion of a “facelift” to its boys lodge and six new offices for counselors and staff. Additionally, the school is nearing completion of a complex that will provide additional classrooms and facilities for its boys.
Based in a secure, scenic area of western North Carolina, Harbor Oaks is a private, non-profit, behavior modification school that offers programs for young men and women with a history of emotional difficulties, poor academic performance, difficult family relationships and behavior problems.
The school works with troubled teens, ages 13 to 17, and creates individual education plans (IEPs) for students with the goal of reunification with their families.
“We’re excited about the new additions to our facility,” said Dr. Patricia Jones, director of Harbor Oaks Boarding School.
“We’re also nearing completion of a new school building for our boys on a 52-acre tract of land with plans for continued development and permanent housing on that property,” she added.
The projects have enabled students to contribute to the building process, gaining a vocational arts credit for doing so. Participants have also acquired a sense of accomplishment and confidence for their efforts.
The recent additions for the staff will provide added space for the educators and counselors, all of which are carefully screened by the school to ensure safe and professional support for student residents.
“Members of our staff have many years of experience working with adolescents with various behavioral and emotional issues,” said Jones. “They’re certified within the teaching field and are extremely qualified to help prepare students for potential issues once they leave our school.”
With capacity for 32 students in each school for its boys and girls (64 total), Harbor Oaks School anticipates the recent facility additions will provide a foundation for future growth and expansion.
