Charting the Course from Standards to Practical Service Management with ITSMF
OTTSVILLE, PA, USA November 2, 2007 – Eracent recently attended the itSMF ISO/IEC 20000 Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting. Organized by itSMF UK, an independent and international forum for IT Service Management professionals, the informational sessions are open to any interested IT professional. Practitioners in IT Service Management share their experience and for this particular meeting, the focus was on the ISO/IEC 20000 standard which defines the assessment of IT Service Management.
“ISO/IEC 20000 is closely aligned with ITIL, the IT Infrastructure Library,” stated Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz, Eracent’s IT Standard Support Manager and a participant at this event. “As an infrastructure, ITIL does not provide the details for a formal compliance assessment. ISO/IEC 20000 is the standard that provides the details for official assessment and compliance certification.”
The ISO/IEC 20000 standard is based on British standard BS15000, which describes how to confirm that IT Service Management has been implemented properly. IT Service Management processes and a code of practice for IT Service management is included in the British Standard.
“By attending the meeting in Stockport, UK, I had the opportunity to participate in conversations with professionals both new to service management as well as some of the most experienced service management people working in IT today,” described Baczkiewicz. “These meetings are a great opportunity to find out what works during an implementation as well as what does not.”
