DuPont Named Among Top Biotechnology Employers by Science Magazine

DuPont Ranks Ahead of Other Companies in Plant Biotechnology Industry

WILMINGTON, Del. - DuPont has been named one of the best employers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry in the 2007 Science Magazine Top Employers survey.

This is the first DuPont appearance on the survey’s top 20 listing. The company’s number seven ranking places it ahead of other companies in the plant biotechnology industry. DuPont also was recognized for its efforts in the area of bio-based technologies.

At DuPont, biotechnology-related research spans agricultural biotechnology, biofuels and biomaterials. DuPont products are improving productivity for farmers, providing a safer food supply for consumers, and delivering materials and consumer products made from renewable sources.

DuPont continues to strengthen its biotechnology research commitment. In December, DuPont announced the expansion of its research capacity and the addition of more than 400 positions, primarily focused on seed and biotechnology research.

Globally, DuPont has over 50 R&D facilities and more than 5,000 scientists and engineers. The company invests an average of $1.4 billion annually on global research and development in a diverse range of technologies for markets including agriculture, automotive, construction, electronics, chemicals and industrial materials.

Science’s annual survey of Top Employers polls employees in the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical and related industries. Respondents to the web-based survey are asked to rate companies on 23 characteristics. DuPont was recognized for doing important, quality research; having loyal employees; and being socially responsible. The 2007 results are based on 3,157 survey responses from readers of Science and other respondents in industry. Twenty-nine percent of the respondents came from outside the United States, primarily Western Europe, and 92 percent worked in private industry.
