IBM Storage Virtualization Solution Certified for VMware Infrastructure

WEBWIRE

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that its flagship storage virtualization solution -- IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) -- has been certified by VMware for use in conjunction with VMware Infrastructure. This certification will enable joint customers to utilize cross-company certification experts as they deploy fully virtualized IT infrastructures based on SVC and VMware Infrastructure.
IBM’s SVC helps clients make better use of existing storage, controls growth, improves storage administrator productivity, and can dramatically improve the availability and resiliency of an infrastructure. IBM and VMware conducted joint testing to certify IBM’s SVC solution (1).

“We’re pleased that IBM’s storage virtualization solution SAN Volume Controller is one of the early industry wide solutions to be certified for VMware Infrastructure,” said Andy Monshaw, General Manager, IBM System Storage. “We have hundreds of customers already using SVC with VMware to take full advantage of the greater efficiency and productivity that SVC allows to IT administrators to be more flexible and responsive to business needs while also improving the availability and resiliency of virtual infrastructures.”

In independent benchmarks designed and audited by the Storage Performance Council, IBM’s SVC is the highest performing benchmarked storage virtualization solution in the world today -- with speeds over 75 percent above its predecessor (2). Through working with IBM directly or with its strategic business partners, implementing SAN Volume Controller unlocks proprietary holds vendors have had on customers for years, having the capabilities to virtualize across disparate hardware vendors systems.

“IBM SVC certification for VMware Infrastructure is very big news for our customers,” said Bob Hankins, Director of Storage Sales, Logicalis, Inc. “As a key business partner with IBM, we are continually cross selling hardware and software solutions that truly optimize our clients’ infrastructures and with SVC certified with VMware Infrastructure, our customers will have the confidence in knowing they have the strength and support of these companies behind them.”
