EMSL Analytical Introduces New Printable Geographical Radon Maps
Downloadable Maps allow Homeowners to Assess the Risks in their Area.
EMSL Analytical, the leader in providing cutting edge laboratory services and products, has recently released downloadable radon maps of the United States from EPA sources. The maps allow property owners the ability to view their state and county to help assess the potential radon risks to their properties.
Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural decay of radium. It is a colorless, odorless and chemically inert gas that cannot be detected by human senses. According the Surgeon General of the United States, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in our country. The EPA’s 2003 Assessment of Risks from Radon reports it is estimated 21,000 lung cancer deaths are the result of radon each year in the United States.
“The national spotlight on lung cancer is often directed at anti-smoking campaigns,” stated Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President Marketing at EMSL Analytical. “Radon gas in our homes can also have the same deadly outcome for its inhabitants,” Frasca went on to report.
As one of the largest environmental laboratories in the country, EMSL Analytical has a long history of providing radon testing services and kits to both homeowners and environmental professionals. The maps are meant as an additional resource for people to check the radon levels in their areas, but as with many environmental concerns simple testing is necessary to determine radon levels in a specific property.
“These maps are a great free resource for our clients and the general public,” reported Paul Cochrane, Business Development Director for EMSL Analytical. “All homeowners, and especially those in areas with naturally occurring high levels, should be aware of this invisible threat to the health of their families,” Cochrane went on to say.
The informative maps can be downloaded free of charge at www.radontestinglab.com/map.asp, EMSL’s radon website.
