Capability Developed for U.S. Strategic Command Recognized As Best Practice

Omaha, Neb.- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has been chosen to receive the 2007 Industry Award for Excellence in Enterprise Integration. This honor from the Association for Enterprise Integration (AFEI) recognizes the achievement and best practices in technology and leadership that improve enterprise performance. Selected from more than 80 industry entries, Lockheed Martin was recognized for developing the User-Defined Operational Picture (UDOP), a capability that has profound consequences for improving the performance and advancing enterprise integration, according to AFEI judges.

“AFEI is pleased that our independent judges selected the USSTRATCOM Commanders’ UDOP as the industry award winner this year,” said Dave Chesebrough, president of AFEI. “Using open, serviced-based architecture and Web 2.0 technologies to integrate data from existing sources has effectively demonstrated that net-centric operations can be achieved across the various pieces of the Defense enterprise.”

“We share this acknowledgement with our joint service and industry partners,” saidDouglas “Spider” Richardson, vice president of Lockheed Martin’s C4ISR Solutions Division. “This underscores the commitment we have made to enhance situational awareness and facilitate collaborative planning for all combatant commands.”

Developed for the U.S. Strategic Command’s Integrated Strategic Planning and Analysis Network (ISPAN), UDOPprovides the ability to “see” and better understand dynamic, global situations by allowing users to create a collaborative, real-time picture of critical events, then simultaneously share that view with others. Before this capability was developed commanders had to view static pieces of information from various sources individually and in sequence. Operational views could not be shared in real-time.

AFEI, an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association, is the leading industry group providing a framework for collaboration between government and industry.
