WEBWIRE

Winnipeg - Another HBR (Hudson Bay Railway) derailment near Dyce, Manitoba has disrupted once again regular VIA Rail services between Churchill and Thompson, in both directions. Monday’s latest derailment has also delayed today’s evening departure of VIA’s southbound train from Churchill, Manitoba.

VIA’s northbound train no. 693 from Winnipeg to Churchill will be terminated in Thompson. VIA has made alternate transportation for passengers travelling between Thompson and Churchill.

Under normal conditions the equipment from train no. 693 is turned at Churchill to become train no.692. As a consequence of the HBR derailment and the subsequent termination of VIA train no. 693 in Thompson, VIA is also arranging for passengers scheduled to depart Churchill on train no. 692 this evening, to be flown from Churchill to Thompson where they will board the train for the remainder of their trip.

VIA is actively trying to contact passengers who are holding tickets for this train to advise them of the exact departure time.

As soon as VIA receives information from HBR regarding when the track will be re-opened, passengers and the public will be informed.

VIA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience and for the expected delays this disruption may cause to its passengers. Customers wishing further information may call 888-VIA RAIL (842-7245) or 888-842-6348.
