New player brings leading-edge cellular communications solutions to the

Defence & Aerospace industry

London, 31 August, 2007 – Leading developer of advanced cellular solutions for aeronautical and remote applications in the civil sector, Altobridge, (DSEI 2007, Stand 2246), is attending its first DSEI event, as interest in the company’s pioneering and proven cellular communications systems gathers pace within the defence industry for some of the military’s most demanding and technologically challenging uses.

Altobridge has pioneered some of most advanced, niche applications of cellular technology, including aeronautical, in-flight personal mobile communications, maritime cellular for crew calling and homeland security applications, as well as emergency first responder and remote rural solutions.

Showcased on the Altobridge stand at DSEI 2007, and aimed particularly at the Special Operations community, will be the company’s ruggedised adaptation of the Remote Contiguous Communications system, or RCC, which has caught the imagination of potential military and security users. The company has already been selected by an elite North American defence organisation and is continuing further discussions with several other interested and high-profile military parties.

In all its applications of the company’s patented, breakthrough technology, Altobridge effectively enables users on the ground to establish their own private cellular network, across which a closed user-group of callers can securely link together, or to connect, using satellite backhaul across different bearers, to the outside world via commercial carriers appropriate for a particular application.

The RCC’s operational characteristics can be selected among the standard GSM frequencies of 900Mhz, 1800Mhz and 1900Mhz. The RCC supports cellular A5/1 and A5/2 encryption and standard cellular features such as person-to-person telephony, together with data services such as short message services and packet data (GPRS). It will also support special military encryption GSM handsets.

CEO of Altobridge, Mike Fitzgerald, said, “Our move into the Defence & Aerospace industry is a natural progression in the company’s evolution, since our terrestrial system adaptations of Altobridge’s technology are ideally suited to deployment with special forces and other high-profile and demanding military units. Our standing already with these defence units, and commitments already made to the technology, has encouraged us to make the move into this extremely demanding industry sector.”
