Banamex Named Best Internet Consumer Bank in Mexico by Global Finance

Mexico City – The prestigious magazine Global Finance has published its annual list naming the World’s Best Internet Banks 2007. It acknowledged Banamex, for the fifth year in a row, as the Best Consumer Internet Bank in Mexico, as well as winning in two sub-categories for Latin America: Best Investment Management Services and Best Integrated Corporate Bank Site. This list of winners will be published in the magazine’s September edition.

The selection was done by the editors of Global Finance supported by a jury of experts of the renowned company Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. The following criteria were taken into account for the nominations:

* The design and functionality of the online portal.
* The diversity of products offered online.
* The success in getting customers to use the products and services offered online.
* The strategic strength to attract customers and give them online services.
* The growing number of customers using their Internet portal.
* The evidence of tangible benefits obtained through initiatives via the Internet.

When making the announcement Joseph D. Giarraputo, editor of Global Finance stressed, “In less than a decade the Internet has transformed the way many consumers and most businesses relate to the banking system. The continuous enhancements in Internet offerings represented by this year’s participants demonstrates that there are still many meaningful changes in Internet banking.”

Enrique Grapa, director of Operations and Technology in Banamex said, “Maintaining a customer centered business focus has been the key to sustaining ourselves at the lead, not only in investment and technology; but also in our large array of products, in service quality, and in operation security.”

It is worth underscoring that during 2007 Global Finance also nominated Banamex Best Bank in Mexico in five additional categories:

1. Best Emerging Market Banks, country winner, Mexico
2. Best Foreign Exchange Bank
3. Best Trade Finance Bank
4. Best Investment Bank
5. Best Sub-Custodian

“Being acknowledged as Best Bank in so many different categories, year after year, shows the continuous effort to better understand our customers needs, our capacity to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, and the commitment of all those who work in our institution to allow it to continue being the best option in the multiple business segments our financial group participates in,” underscored Jorge Hierro, executive director of Institutional Relationships.
