DETROIT - General Motors (GM) has been recognized by LATINA Style Magazine as one of the 50 best corporations in America to work for because of its ongoing commitment to helping Latina’s develop their careers. The annual LATINA Style 50 Report, now celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2007, is one of the most respected national evaluations of companies in terms of corporate policies and practices as they relate to the needs and goals of Latinas in the workplace. With more than 1,000 prominent corporations surveyed for the report, it is the most extensive review of its kind and thus, the honor is a significant distinction for GM.

The questionnaire covered core areas of importance as identified by readers of LATINA Style Magazine, including educational opportunities, the number of fellow Latinas at executive levels and on the board of directors, mentoring programs, job retraining, employee benefits, childcare support, women’s issues and having affinity groups.

“We are honored by this recognition from such a distinguished publication,” said Roderick D. Gillum, vice president, GM Corporate Responsibility and Diversity. “General Motors is dedicated to helping Latinas advance in our organization and their contributions have made us a better company. At every level and around the world, we strive to provide our diverse workforce with an enriching and supportive environment with extensive career opportunities.”

GM employs many Hispanic women whose contributions and success are evident throughout the global organization - from running profitable dealerships to holding the highest positions within engineering. In addition, GM supports an employee affinity group, the GM Hispanic Initiative Team, to provide Hispanic employees with opportunities to network within the corporation, serve as mentors to other Hispanics, act as liaisons to the Hispanic community and promote business goals by serving as resources for the company.

LATINA Style Magazine will honor GM at their annual awards ceremony to be held on February 7, 2008, in Washington, D.C.
