The American Library Association’s (ALA) Graphics Office, ALA Graphics, is pleased to announce a partnership with Yahoo! to offer virtual “READ” T-shirts. Yahoo! subscribers can now dress their avatar-an icon subscribers can create to represent themselves-in a “READ” T-shirt.
Yahoo! avatars have a huge wardrobe of clothes to choose from, including T-shirts that raise awareness for special causes. The “READ” T-shirt is one of only a few select causes and issues featured.

Jackie Siminitus, project manager, California School Library Association’s School Library Learning 2.0, an online training program that allows users to experiment and learn about new and emerging Web technologies, facilitated the creation of the virtual “READ” T-shirt by contacting ALA Graphics and Yahoo! Now anyone on Yahoo!, avid readers, librarians or literacy supporters, can show their love for reading by dressing their avatar in a “READ” T-shirt.

“We are delighted that ALA’s famous READ campaign can extend its reach in such a fun way online,” said Rachel Johnson, director, Products and Promotions, ALA Graphics. “It’s an easily recognized logo, and we’re glad to see it take a whole new cyber incarnation.”

To dress your Yahoo! avatar in a virtual “READ” T-shirt, go to http://avatars.yahoo.com. Select the tab marked “extras” and then click on “issues and causes.”
