World Gospel Mission On the Cutting Edge: First in Field To Bring Spiritual Reality To A “Virtual World”

WEBWIRE

Marion, Indiana--July-10—World Gospel Mission (WGM) has been on the “cutting edge” in terms of evangelism and the first in its field to bring the reality of the need for the gospel to the virtual world of “Second Life.” Even with the tremendous growth the virtual community has experienced there is still room for more. Over 7.5 million people have already joined the world of “Second Life,” a virtual community designed after the ones we live in, where citizens can buy and sell real items like fine art, real estate, jewelry, and services- like consulting, party planning and designing- exchanging millions of US dollars.

Although Second Life lacks nothing as far as material wealth, some of its citizens behave as though they are without consequence. WGM recognized their opportunity to bring this virtual community what it was in desperate need of, the gospel. Using the principles WGM is already using worldwide- the missions group has created a handbook called, “Ambassadors to LindenLand Handbook,” for Christians to use as a guide in presenting the good news of Jesus Christ to the already millions of Second Life citizens.

“We saw the “real” people behind the active avatars and realized these virtual fields are white with harvest, “ said Hubert Harriman, president of World Gospel Mission, “No matter what part of the world we are referring to, including a virtual world, people have a common denominator- the need for a Savior and we have created the “Ambassadors to LindenLand Handbook,” to assist Christians to represent Christ to this lost virtual world. WGM’s goal is to equip those Christians already in the mission field of Second Life so they can be more effective in furthering the gospel.
