Clay Spencer Named Head of Development at Producer David Janollari’s Warner Bros.-Based Television Production Company

Clay Spencer has been named Head of Development at producer David Janollari’s newly formed, Warner Bros. Television Group-based production company, it was announced today by Janollari, to whom Spencer will report.

In his new position, Spencer will serve as Janollari’s chief creative executive, spearheading efforts to develop new drama and comedy series, as well as longform programming, for both Warner Bros. Television and Warner Horizon Television.

“Clay has great taste in material and terrific relationships with the creative community and artist representatives throughout the industry,” said Janollari. “We have worked closely together for the last four years, and I couldn’t be happier to have Clay back with me in this new venture as we hit the ground running with development.”

Most recently, Spencer worked under Janollari at The WB Television Network, serving as Vice President, Drama Development, from 2004-2006. While at The WB, Spencer was involved in the development and production of a number of primetime series, including Warner Bros. Television’s “Supernatural,” the Rebecca Romijn-starrer “Pepper Dennis,” “Related,” “Just Legal” and “The Bedford Diaries,” and oversaw production on current series such as Warner Bros. Television’s “Smallville” and “The Mountain.”

Prior to joining The WB, Spencer was Vice President, Development and Production, at The Greenblatt Janollari Studio, the independent television production company headed by Janollari and partner Robert Greenblatt. While at Greenblatt Janollari, Spencer developed new drama and comedy pilots and series, and supervised production of ongoing network television shows such as “Eve” and “One on One.”

Before that, Spencer spent six years in the current programs department at Paramount Network Television. He joined Paramount in 1998 as an Associate, quickly earning promotions to Manager and, subsequently, Director. While at Paramount, Spencer oversaw production on several network series, including “JAG,” “First Monday,” “Big Apple,” “Becker,” “Girlfriends” and “One on One,” among others.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Spencer holds a bachelor of arts in economics.
