And Control for Microsoft SQL Server
ISLANDIA, N.Y.– CA (NYSE: CA) today announced the latest release of its CA ERwin Data Modeler (DM)-the first data modeling tool to be integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Database Professionals. CA ERwin DM r7.2 is a key component of CA ERwin Modeling Suite—an integrated set of technologies that enables best practices for relational database design and modeling.
As Microsoft SQL Server has emerged as a leading enterprise-class database platform, it has given rise to a new generation of database professionals who need enterprise-class database design and management tools. CA ERwin Modeling Suite r7.2 uniquely facilitates a managed, model-based approach for business analysis and requirements gathering, as well as the design and implementation of high quality database and data warehouse applications. It also enables database professionals using SQL Server to visually design and generate managed objects for use in the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment.
“Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Database Professionals enables database professionals who use SQL Server to deliver business solutions that fulfill the constantly evolving requirements of enterprise customers,” said Matt Nunn, group product manager for Visual Studio Team System at Microsoft Corp. “By integrating its popular ERwin Data Modeler with Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Database Professionals, CA is helping customers further streamline their development processes, reduce design defects and assure the proper business alignment of their critical applications.”
Database professionals also can leverage CA ERwin DM to quickly migrate existing SQL Server data schemas to accelerate deployment of Visual Studio projects. Managed objects can be reverse engineered from Visual Studio into CA ERwin DM for metadata visualization, integration and reporting purposes. CA ERwin DM r7.2 also delivers full native support of the relational syntax in SQL Server 2005, including the round-trip engineering of objects directly with the database catalog and/or via script. The new release also adds support for MySQL, DB2 9 and Sybase IQ.
One of CA’s partners in delivering the ERwin Data Modeler to market is Ingram Micro Inc., the world’s largest technology distributor and a leading technology sales, marketing and logistics company.
“At Ingram Micro, we are constantly looking for new high-value technologies that address a real market need,” said Jodi Honore, vice president, vendor management, Ingram Micro Inc. “The new release of CA ERwin DM will help us continue to deliver new value to our channel partners, and ultimately to end users.”
Other new features in CA ERwin Data Modeler r7.2 include:
* Enhancements to the “Complete Compare” feature to make it easier for users to discover unplanned or unscheduled model changes
* New, flexible name management capabilities that enable modelers to rigorously enforce or globally modify naming structures to support more coherent model meta data standards across the enterprise
* A new PDF index that eases navigation of the large reports that the ERwin DM Report Template Builder can generate in enterprise environments for sharing model metadata for review by various stakeholders
“Enterprise IT organizations are under increased pressure to deliver more sophisticated, high-performance business solutions within their existing resource constraints and to fully minimize the risk of error in their development process,” said Danny Sandwell, CA’s product manager for CA ERwin Modeling Suite. “By enabling best practices for model-driven development, the latest release of CA ERwin Data Modeler empowers today’s database professionals to meet these technically challenging objectives.”
In addition to CA ERwin Data Modeler, all components of CA ERwin Modeling Suite now support Microsoft SQL Server 2005. CA ERwin Modeling Suite is part of CA Database Management, which helps reduce the total cost of database ownership by automating day-to-day operations and increasing overall service responsiveness.
