UC Irvine campus community invited to show solidarity and ’Stand Together for Tolerance’

EVENT: To affirm the campus’s tolerance of diverse spiritual and religious practices and to show respect for the right of free expression, the University of California, Irvine division of the UC Academic Senate is sponsoring a demonstration, “Stand Together for Tolerance.” All faculty, students and staff are invited to form a human chain around Aldrich Park to affirm to the campus and community that people of different religions and spiritual practices are safe on campus and welcome to practice their religions.

LOCATION: Aldrich Park, at the base of Langson Library (Bldg. 102 on map), UCI campus.

BACKGROUND: The University of California Academic Senate provides the organizational framework that enables faculty systemwide to participate in the university’s governance. Unique among university faculty governments, the UC Academic Senate is authorized to determine academic policy, set standards for admission and granting of degrees, authorize and supervise courses and curricula, and advise the UC administration on faculty appointments, promotions and budgets.
