Report: IBM System p and System z Lead in Worldwide Revenue Share for $250k+ Servers

IDC reported that IBM (NYSE: IBM) achieved worldwide server factory revenue share of 28.9 percent in the first quarter of 2007. (1)

According to IDC, IBM’s leadership position in global server revenue in 2006 was augmented by noteworthy 11.7 percent year-over-year revenue growth in its System z mainframe business, and 29.1 percent factory revenue share in the quarter. (2)

IBM also led in UNIX servers with 13.7 percent year-over-year growth and 29.6 percent revenue share in the quarter. (3) IBM’s leadership position in UNIX servers was announced on the heels of the company’s introduction of the world’s fastest microprocessor ever built, POWER6, and an ultra-powerful new computer server that leverages it.

“IBM’s leadership position with its System p and System z businesses marked a continuing trend in the industry toward consolidation onto high-end systems,” said Bill Zeitler, senior vice president and group executive for IBM Systems & Technology Group. “IBM will continue to innovate at the microprocessor level as well as the systems level to help clients optimize IT to improve business productivity.”
