Juniper WXC Platforms Improve Performance of Company’s Business-Critical Applications

Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that See’s Candies has deployed the Juniper Networks WXC 500 and WXC 250 application acceleration platforms to optimize business-critical applications across multiple locations and improve quality of service (QoS) for orders placed through its retail website.

Following a busy holiday season, See’s, with headquarters in South San Francisco and seven corporate locations throughout California, concluded that it needed a WAN optimization solution to help alleviate the burden on its network infrastructure from an overwhelming amount of orders placed through its retail website. It was imperative that the company find a solution that could increase effective WAN capacity and improve the performance of sales databases, e-mail applications and file services while prioritizing revenue-generating transactions over other traffic.

“We did 30-day evaluations with a couple of vendors to compare and contrast solutions, and found the Juniper platforms to be flawless,” said David Kallman, IT manager at See’s Candies. “Since deploying the WXC platforms we’ve seen weeks where the WAN capacity reduction was in the 8X to 9X range. We’ve been extremely impressed.”

Application Flow Acceleration Speeds Up Business-Critical Apps
Since deploying the Juniper WXC platforms, See’s Candies has improved the performance of several business-critical applications, including Oracle, Windows file services, Microsoft Exchange, and even TCP-based terminal emulators. The WXC platforms also reduced database replication traffic by 98 percent. In a typical week, the Juniper products produced:

An 83 percent reduction in Microsoft Exchange traffic
A 90 percent reduction in Common Internet File System (CIFS) traffic generated by Windows file services
A 65 to 70 percent reduction in web-based application traffic
