Collaboration yields Ultra-Broadband services at speeds exceeding 145 Mbps

Norcross, GA, Horsham, PA and Singapore – Vyyo Inc. (NASDAQ: VYYO), Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and StarHub (STI: STARHUB) today announced the successful testing of DOCSIS 3.0 services with speeds exceeding 145 Mbps. Testing took place over the StarHub hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) network, using Motorola network products and Vyyo UltraBandTM Spectrum Overlay solutions.

Vyyo’s Spectrum Overlay solutions use spectrum up to approximately 3 GHz frequency for increased upstream and downstream bandwidth, allowing MSOs to achieve competitive bandwidth speeds when used in combination with DOCSIS 3.0 network equipment. The integration of proven Motorola HFC network solutions already widely deployed by StarHub with the Vyyo solution has produced successful results in recent lab and field trials in Singapore.

“There has been considerable discussion over the past year regarding cable’s ability to meet future residential and business services bandwidth needs,” said Kevin Keefe, vice president of marketing and business development, Motorola Connected Home Solutions. “Through our work in Singapore and elsewhere with technologies like Vyyo Spectrum Overlay, we are proving that the industry has the flexibility within its existing HFC plant and DOCSIS 3.0 based network equipment like the Motorola BSR 64000 CMTS, to deliver the Ultra-Broadband data services that readily meet and exceed consumer broadband needs of the future.”

“As we plan the network facility necessary to deliver DOCSIS 3.0 Ultra-Broadband services, the ability to leverage our existing infrastructure investment will be critically important,” said Thomas Ee, senior vice president for StarHub’s Cable, Fixed and IP Services. “Our tests with Motorola and Vyyo are an important step down the path toward delivering the services that are envisioned as part of the Next Generation National Broadband Network.”

“Cable system operators worldwide have tremendous investments and expertise in HFC architectures,” said Al Johnson, senior vice president and general manager, Spectrum Overlay services for Vyyo. “We’re pleased to be working with Motorola and StarHub, two leading companies, to show how operators can cost-effectively deliver new services using the bandwidth created by our Spectrum Overlay solution.”

StarHub’s trials used Vyyo’s XHUB node product, XFR trunk amplifier, XTB CPE device and passive elements to double downstream bandwidth and increase upstream bandwidth by a factor of at least four. Motorola equipment involved in the tests included the Motorola BSR 64000 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and Motorola SB6100 channel-bonding cable modems.

StarHub plans to deploy Vyyo products in greenfield sites in anticipation of its deployment of new services over Spectrum Overlay.
