“Wordle Limericks: Flamericks” by Marshall S Flam, M.D. is a compendium of 603 limericks based on the first 401 words of the popular internet game “Wordle.” The limericks always incorporate the daily Wordle word-of-the-day. The subjects of these limericks are broad-ranging and are categorized into 33 separate groups. Dr. Flam uses his limericks to encourage readers to “laugh and learn,” which is the motto of the book.

A limerick is a short poem consisting of 5 lines and is traditionally bawdry or ribald. While some in this book fit that traditional categorization, there are many that deviate. Instead, his limericks dally with many different genres including: intellectual, quixotic, scientific, musical, historical, literary, psychological, etc. They are always intended to make the reader smile, laugh, and learn, and some may even instill a twist of nostalgia. Many have explanatory footnotes aimed at increasing the readers’ knowledge and at encouraging further research.

Dr. Flam is a physician who practiced and taught Oncology and Hematology for 40 years, retiring in 2014. This is his first non-medical work. To date, he has written 2,400 limericks, based on the first 1000 Wordle words of the day. As there are 2,315 five-letter words in the English language, he plans to continue until the final Wordle word is released on October 20, 2027. Therefore, he plans to create 10 volumes of limericks. This book is Volume 1.

Dr. Marshall Flam is a graduate of MIT who practiced and taught Oncology and Hematology for 40 years. Wordle Limericks is his first non-medical publication. He is the father of 5 accomplished daughters. His hobbies include tennis, skiing, singing, gourmet cooking, mixology and travelling.
