Expanding the broad presence its flagship Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil has in high-performance motorsports, ExxonMobil has announced a global technical cooperative agreement with Honda Performance Development (HPD), a subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., and the Honda technical operations center, for the development and design of Acura’s high-performance racing engines.

As part of the agreement, ExxonMobil’s signature Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil will be used in all three Acura LMP2 race car engines for the 2007 and 2008 seasons of the American Le Mans Series. ExxonMobil also provides technical support for the team, which made its American Le Mans Series debut on March 17, 2007, at the 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring race in Central Florida.

“As the world’s leading synthetic motor oil, Mobil 1 technology has long been recognized within the racing community for its ability to deliver exceptional performance and long-lasting protection for engines that operate under the most demanding of conditions,” said Nancy Carlson, strategic global alliances manager, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties. “We look forward to working side by side with the Acura and HPD team members and helping them drive to the Winner’s Circle with a successful debut in the ultra-competitive American Le Mans Series.”

“In returning Acura to international sports car racing, we could not think of a better way to help achieve our goal of winning than by joining with ExxonMobil and having Mobil 1 by our side,” said Robert Clarke, president, Honda Performance Development. “As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Acura with our entry of three factory supported teams into the American Le Mans Series, we anticipate that our experience in advanced engine design, and the technical expertise and motorsports experience of Mobil 1 will help create an exciting season for the fans, our sponsors and our teams.”

As part of the agreement, ExxonMobil will participate in various marketing, advertising and promotional activities with Acura, HPD and the Acura LMP2 race cars. In addition to the team’s debut at the 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the Acura LMP2 teams will compete in the remaining 11 races during the 2007 American Le Mans Series season, as well as the 2008 season.
