Media OP: Christian Author says, Relationship Books May Hurt More People Than They Actually Help

WEBWIRE

In her book, Memoirs of a Woman Scorned, author, evangelist and Christian counselor, Juanita Price dares to take a hard look at issues many relationship books sugarcoat or overlook. She states, “there are a wealth of how-to books in the marketplace today. They either teach women how to land a man or how to keep him. But few teach women the necessity of being selective, wise, disciplined and patient in their searches. My guess is that for many writers, telling women to wait or to be disciplined and patient in their searches would rob books of their entertainment value which could negatively affect sales. So the books may instead, tell women what they think they want to hear. Books are then written to raise a woman’s hopes of finding Mr. Right. Such books may make women sweat, get chills and hot-flashes and often drive them on a willy-nilly, wild-goose hunt that ends terribly.”

“Although it is my opinion that we should focus more on what women need rather than what they want, books that appeal to our sensual nature sell. But do they produce positive outcomes and offer lasting benefits? Do they add value to our lives?

“While it is not a crime to give relationship search advice, I do not believe there are nearly enough sequels that address how women can bounce back from relationship decisions that cause damage in their homes, children, finances, physical and emotional health, careers, ministries and friendships. I guess one would say we are selling products without instructions and warning labels.

Instead, we are telling women by implication that all they have to do is to lose weight and look great and everything else will fall into place. But what happens when the man you caught turns out to be a hormonal, skirt-chasing, disease-infested, angry psycho? I’m being both facetious and serious, but what should a woman do in this case? “ How can she tell early on that someone is not the best choice for her?

“I know and have personally counseled a melting pot of women including those considered by some to be “great –looking” and skinny who were equally battling with physical/emotional abuse, life-threatening and incurable sexually transmitted diseases, drug addiction, emotional disorders, broken children and financial ruin. In each case, the damage was the direct result of having chosen the wrong romantic partner. Whether we are fat, skinny, brown, blue or purple, we are bound to the laws of relationship.

Memoirs of a Woman Scorned does not claim to have all of the answers, but with its real life stories, wisdom keys and healing remedies, it promises to be effective in exposing the myths of relationships and providing smelling salts for those who have been lulled into la-la land by misleading story-book romance novels that are dangerous and useless to anyone seeking a lasting, healthy, genuine and love-filled commitment.
