Tesco has reconfirmed its position as the “Consumer’s Favourite Retailer,” taking the prestigious accolade at the Retail Week Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night.

At a glittering ceremony attended by 1,700 top representatives of UK retail, Tesco Commercial Director Richard Brasher thanked Retail Week and the customers in the 15,000-strong TNS panel who voted for Tesco.

“This is the award we really wanted to win as it’s our customers telling us they like what we do – it’s great to have the hard work of all our 260,000 staff recognised in this way,” he said.

“This is a really important award because it is voted for by the people who count, the consumers. Like any successful business, Tesco has its critics, but this award shows it is still focused on keeping shoppers happy.”

And backing up Tesco’s commitment to customer service, the nation’s top retailer also won the coveted “Customer Service Initiative of the Year” award for its innovative “One In Front” cameras that have been an invaluable aid to shortening queuing times in Tesco stores.

Last June, Tesco was voted “Britain’s Favourite Retailer” for the second year running by shoppers polled by The Grocer magazine.
