MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & DENVER - Nuvoiz, a start-up developing open standards-based mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications, has announced that the Nuvoiz SoftPhone™ and Nuvoiz VoIP Network Controller™ include instant messaging (IM), persistent group chat, and presence capabilities provided through a strategic original equipment manufacturer (OEM) relationship with Jabber, Inc.

Launched last month at the Demo ’07 technology showcase, the Nuvoiz SoftPhone for PCs and personal digital assistants (PDAs) is an advanced mobile Voice over Instant Messaging (VoIM) solution that is a natural Internet Protocol (IP) telephony enhancement for small and medium businesses and mid-enterprise customers using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based IP private branch exchange (PBX) or IP Centrex. The Nuvoiz SoftPhone combined with the messaging and presence capabilities of the Jabber Extensible Communication Platform (Jabber XCP) provides high-fidelity voice with a massively scalable and extensible platform for unified communications.

“Presence and multi-protocol interoperability are two of the most important and challenging requirements in unified communications,” said Dave Uhlir, vice president of marketing and product management at Jabber, Inc. “Launching with Nuvoiz speaks to both of these points. Presence is highlighted within their softphone client; additionally, this demonstrates Jabber XCP’s ability to integrate seamlessly across the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol, SIP, and many other popular communications protocols in a highly scalable and programmable way.”

Available immediately to IP telephony service providers and network operators, the Nuvoiz SoftPhone has been designed to work with any existing deployment of Jabber XCP, which Jabber, Inc. points out may appeal to existing telecom, service provider, or enterprise customers. Alternatively, a packaged solution that includes Jabber XCP’s IM, persistent group chat, and extended presence capabilities is available directly from Nuvoiz.

“After evaluating several competing platforms, we selected Jabber XCP because of its proven scalability, reliability, availability of mature software development kits, and our experience with the company’s customer support team,” said Chong-Jin Koh, chief executive officer of Nuvoiz.
