Delta to Recall More Flight Attendants
ATLANTA, Nov. 9, 2006 – Delta Air Lines today announced plans to recall an additional 1,000 flight attendants in 2007. This latest recall is scheduled to begin in January with as many as 500 previously furloughed flight attendants scheduled for training in the first few months of the year.
“Our recalls will help ensure a smoother operation for our customers and our people as we build a more competitive network during what is the largest and most exciting international expansion in Delta’s history,” said Jim Whitehurst, Delta’s chief operating officer. Delta has added or announced more than 70 new international routes since fall 2005, with many of the routes beginning later this year and during 2007.
“It is great that our plan is working and we are able to continue to bring back Delta people,” Whitehurst said. In September, Delta announced a recall of more than 200 flight attendants, and its second pilot recall of 2006, for a total of approximately 130 pilots recalled this year to date. The company also continues to recall maintenance personnel and is hiring in its Airport Customer Service and Reservation divisions.
Delta continues to make significant progress in all areas of its restructuring and remains on track to emerge from Chapter 11 during the first half of 2007.
