Printer/Publisher in Canada Selects Agfa’s CtP for Busy Production Facility
Weller Publishing Saves Two Hours Per Shift Thanks to Agfa’s :Advantage.
Toronto, ON, November 7, 2006, Agfa Graphics announced today that Weller Publishing, a newspaper, magazine and book printer in Canada, has added an :Advantage DL platesetter from Agfa to its production room floor. The :Advantage DL with :Arkitex NewsDrive joins several other Agfa products and systems for its busy Toronto-area facility.
“Agfa is a brand I have trusted for many years. I chose the :Advantage because it is not a complicated machine yet gives us all the functionality we need,” said Les Weller, president of the company. “We save about a minute per plate, which is as much as two hours per shift. The elimination of most of our manual plate production has enabled us to free up manpower for other important tasks. Also, the installation of the :Advantage DL has enabled me to spend more time with customers discussing plans and ideas designed to continue to grow their businesses through high-quality publications.” Weller was founded more than 35 years ago by Les Weller’s grandfather to publish a Hungarian language newspaper. Headquartered in Etobicoke, Ontario, Weller Publishing now prints more than a hundred local community newspapers and magazines, college newspapers, publications for not-for-profit groups, churches and healthcare organizations. The company also prints, in a variety of languages, books and telephone directories that are distributed in Canada and the U.S. Weller’s print projects range in circulation from 2,000 to more than 250,000 distributed copies.
The :Advantage joins Weller’s all-Agfa prepress system, which includes :ApogeeX workflow, a :Sherpa 43i proofing system, two imagesetters and several other Agfa products and consumables. “Our relationship with Weller Publishing is a longstanding one, and we are confident that it will continue well into the future. Agfa’s total automation solutions, including the :Advantage DL, help the company stay competitive in a very active market,” said Jack Baraczek, director, Agfa Graphics, Canada. “With the :Advantage and other Agfa products and systems in place, printers like Weller Publishing have the greatest level of confidence about the production process, regardless of how busy or complex their workflow becomes.”
