Dolphin Stadium Scores With World’s Largest Wireless POS System Powered By BelAir Networks
BelAir Networks industry-leading wireless broadband mesh network delivers high speed internet access for stadium’s business services
Kanata, Ontario, November 7, 2006 - Miami Dolphins and Florida Marlins fans have another great reason to cheer this year as Dolphin Stadium debuts a powerful new wireless network right on time for the upcoming FedEx Orange Bowl and Super Bowl XLI. Powered by BelAir Networks, the mobile broadband wireless mesh network provides high speed internet access to the stadium, dining areas, Executive Suites and parking areas.
BelAir partner A2000 deployed the wireless network to support key amenities and business services within the facility. Covering over 300,000 square feet, the stadium boasts the largest wireless point of sale system under one roof in the world. The network has significantly increased the efficiency of the stadium’s POS system. The stadium also plans to use the network with venue-wide VoIP services to keep staff connected, and video security systems.
The network was up and running in less than 30 days from the initial visit to the site and is now delivering wireless high speed Internet access throughout the stadium. Sports reporters on tight deadlines now have the choice to file up-to-the-minute stories wirelessly from the press box. Hungry fans can order refreshments from their seats or Executive Suites using hand-held wireless devices.
“Dolphin Stadium is a leader in professional sports and entertainment and we want to offer our fans the best experience possible,” stated Joe Bailey, Chief Executive Officer, Dolphins Enterprises. “We are extremely pleased with the industry-leading broadband performance of the BelAir solution as well as its carrier-class capacity and reliability.”
“We looked at competing solutions, but BelAir offered best-in-class performance. It would have required more than 100 traditional Wi-Fi access points to provide the coverage we’re getting with 6 BelAir nodes. And, with BelAir, we can support multiple applications in a secure networking environment,” stated Tery Howard, Director of Information Technology, Miami Dolphins, Ltd. and Dolphin Stadium.
Dolphin Stadium has hosted three Super Bowls and two World Series, and will be home to two Super Bowls in the next four years, including the upcoming Super Bowl XLI in February 2007. Having the POS system, wireless applications and Wi-Fi in place in time for the biggest day in sports was critical.
With the deployment of the wireless networks, two of the world’s largest HDTV screens and LED display, Dolphin Stadium has become the technology leader in the world of professional sports. To support its action-packed football, baseball, and soccer games, the stadium is the proud owner of professional sports’ largest high definition (HD) video boards.
“We are focused on delivering best-in-class wireless networks to support our customers’ future economic development and next generation services like those offered at the Dolphin Stadium,” stated Jim Freeze, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Alliances, BelAir Networks. “The stadium is well known for its action-packed games and now it will be recognized for its technology leadership.”
The stadium chose BelAir’s wireless mesh network solution for its proven high performance, ability to support multiple applications concurrently, easy manageability and industry-leading quality of service. The ability of the network to run high bandwidth services using voice, video and data concurrently was critical to support the arena’s services including POS, high speed internet access, and video security systems.
With thousands of wireless mesh nodes operating in more than 200 deployments worldwide, including leading cities such as Minneapolis, the City of London and Toronto, BelAir Networks mobile wireless broadband mesh networking solutions deliver high-performance broadband Quad-play services (voice, video, data and mobility) for municipal, residential and business applications.
BelAir Networks comprehensive product portfolio delivers high performance, cost effective, flexible deployment options and a migration path to future technologies. The portfolio includes the flagship four-radio BelAir200 Wireless Multi-service Switch Router, the dual-radio BelAir100 Multi-service Node, the BelAir100C Multi-service Node featuring point-to-multipoint backhaul, the BelAir100S, and the single-radio BelAir50C and BelAir50S, all seamlessly managed by the BelAir BelView Network Management System.
