Zee TV Launches Interactive Services with Harris Corporation’s Latest SD/HD Broadcast Equipment

MUMBAI, India, October 27, 2006 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced that India’s Zee TV, the largest producer and aggregator of Hindi programming in the world, launched new interactive services on its Direct to Home (DTH) platform, Dish TV from Zee Group, using some of the newest standard- and high-definition (SD/HD) broadcast equipment in the Harris portfolio. To ramp up for the debut of its interactive sports and news services, Zee TV installed three NEXIO XS™ SD/HD transmission servers with a SuiteView™ multiviewer, and became the first broadcaster in India to deploy a 256x256 Platinum™ routing switcher.

Zee TV’s “Sports Active” service debuted in September, in time to deliver value-added options to DTH customers during the broadcast of the DLF Cup cricket series between India, Australia and the West Indies. The interactive service enables viewers to freeze shots from any angle, access player details and statistics about the game in progress and sports in general, and receive additional feeds such as daily/weekly highlights and top stories. The recently launched interactive news services allow DTH viewers to access information on a variety of topics such as business, entertainment, sports and weather via eight windows while watching a live program.

The NEXIO XS server, the most recent addition to the NEXIO™ platform, is an SD/HD transmission server that offers integrated, agile, software codecs with an extensive range of compression formats and back-to-back DV/MPEG playout in a single, three-rack unit (3RU) frame. Featuring all-software codec technology and front-panel access to drives, NEXIO XS™ is one of the most advanced, streamlined, easy-to-use, SD/HD server systems available today. By deploying HD-ready NEXIO XS servers, Zee TV becomes one of the first broadcasters in India to adopt this type of HD technology.

The Platinum routing switcher provides high-quality signal routing up to 256x256 in 15RU and 512x512 in 28RU, and supports a mix of any signal — video and audio, from analog to HD — all in the same frame. Built for maximum reliability in even the harshest, 24/7 operating environment, the Platinum routers offer redundancy that extends from power and control all the way to complete signal paths. In addition, the Platinum routers scale in increments of eight inputs or outputs, thereby limiting the number of signals affected by any one module, while also enabling cost-effective scaling as customers increase the number of signals. The Platinum router’s distributed control system is unique in the industry, requiring no separate, centralized controller.
