China Unicom’s BREW Service Continues to Demonstrate Impressive Year-Over-Year Growth

BEIJING, China — October 25, 2006 — QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, China United Telecommunications Corporation (China Unicom), China’s major telecom operator, and the two parties’ joint venture Unicom-BREW Telecommunication Technologies Ltd., jointly announced today that 3.4 million China Unicom wireless subscribers have securely downloaded more than 43 million BREW® applications since China Unicom’s launch of BREW services in July 2003.
This latest milestone illustrates the BREW solution’s continued momentum in China with strong year-over-year growth for China Unicom’s BREW-based service. Over the past year, there have been 18 million new downloads since China Unicom announced its 25 million download achievement in September 2005, representing a 70 percent increase. The operator reached its first milestone in June 2004 with 1.5 million BREW application downloads.

According to Sino-MR, a research firm in China, there are now more than 130 BREW handset models and more than 1,100 BREW applications available to China Unicom subscribers. The number of BREW developers has more than doubled from 300 in 2005 to more than 600 in 2006. Operators, publishers, developers and device manufacturers in China continue to realize growing revenues for wireless applications and services based on the BREW solution.

In honor of this important milestone, China Unicom and QUALCOMM organized the “Bravo for BREW 2006” event, which brings together more than 200 representatives of the Chinese BREW community, such as handset manufacturers, publishers, developers, operators and wireless subscribers, including Zhengmao Li, vice president of China Unicom and Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of QUALCOMM. The event will be held today, October 25, 2006.

In addition, in order to recognize the growth of BREW application downloads made available by China Unicom, the event also honors various members of the wireless value chain for notable achievements in the Chinese wireless data industry.

* BREW handset manufacturers will be honored for various achievements in handset design that further enable the development of high-quality and advanced mobile devices. LG will be honored with the “Best Design Award,” Samsung with the “Most Models Award,” Huawei with the “Fastest Growing Award” and ZTE with the “Most Potential Award.”
* BREW publishers and developers also will receive honors, including Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company with the “Most Downloads Award,” Sichuan Great Wall Software Technology with the “Highest Revenue Award,” Tiros Information Technology with the “Creativity Award,” Xstyle with the “Most Improved Award” and Unicom Huajian Network with the “Most Influential Award.”
* Shenzhen Telling Telecom Development will be honored with the “Best Channel Partner Award” to recognize its special contributions in BREW handset channel development.

“The Chinese wireless market is one of the largest, and one of the most diverse in the world. In order to achieve success in such a market, it is imperative to offer wireless data services that are as scalable and diverse as the market itself,” said Li. “Through their innovation and initiative, China Unicom and the Chinese BREW community have delivered a wide range of services - from games and ringtones to enterprise and LBS applications - that Chinese subscribers have embraced.”

“China has long exhibited tremendous potential for wireless growth and we’re very proud of how QUALCOMM, China Unicom and BREW device manufacturers, publishers and developers have worked to spur the maturation of the Chinese market,” said Bob Briggs, senior vice president and general manager, BREW for QUALCOMM Internet Services. “Forty-three million BREW downloads is an impressive number for China Unicom. But behind the numbers, we’re exceptionally pleased with how the BREW community has really taken shape and achieved success in China. This success and the innovation we’re seeing from the BREW community is exemplified by the companies we’re honoring at Bravo for BREW 2006.”

“This latest milestone from China Unicom is indicative of both the continued momentum of the BREW solution and the realized promise of mobile data services in China,” said James Shen, general manager of Unicom-BREW Telecommunication Technologies. “A 70 percent increase in new BREW downloads demonstrates how the entire ecosystem is working together to create wireless services and applications that deliver entertainment and productivity options to the end user.”
