YA Author releases a vampire story with a new bite
The Dawning of Scarlett offers a fresh take on accepted lore
The book is fresh, compelling and action packed. The pacing keeps you on your toes and even though there are some gritty subjects addressed in the book, you come away with a smile.
There have been many takes on the vampire legends, from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga, but none have been as ambitious as the newest iteration of vampire lore than The Dawning of Scarlett, the release by Jennifer Osborn by Indescribable Publishing.
Told from the perspective of Scarlett Ellis, a sixteen-year-old vampire which are called “revenants” in the book, the story travels the treacherous journey into adulthood in the revenant world which is called Dawning. It explores issues of abandonment, acceptance and young love.
This book is the third release by Jennifer Osborn who is known for her paranormal stories. Her previous works include The Sentinel’s Insurgency and The Veiled, Book 1 of The Shilund Saga. Exploring the vampire lore seemed to be a natural choice for Ms. Osborn.
“I hate the accepted regurgitation of the same old information regarding urban legends in our culture. When I approach any story, I want to find a fresh way to present it. Reexamining the vampire trope seemed a very natural thing to do. I’m certainly not content with the norm.”
Ms. Osborn’s telling of the vampire myth also has them as genetic vampires rather than a conversion by a bite. Although, sunlight is an issue but more as it relates to a rare human allergic condition, although more extreme when it comes to the revenants.
What does seem to be a normal convention is the love story involved. “I think we all want and need to love and be loved. My main character is no different. What does seem to be an insurmountable roadblock is that she is a revenant and he is a human.”
The book is fresh, compelling and action packed. The pacing keeps you on your toes and even though there are some gritty subject matter in the book, you come away with a smile.
The Dawning of Scarlett released on April 28th and is available in print form and ebook form at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iTunes/iBooks.
