Claro Peru selects Alcatel’s microwave mobile backhaul solution
Paris, September 12, 2006 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA AND NYSE: ALA) today announced that Claro Peru, a subsidiary of America Movil Group the leading providers of telecommunications services in Latin America, has selected Alcatel’s SDH microwave backhaul solution for its countrywide mobile network in Peru.
The contract includes the supply of the Alcatel LSY 9600, the best-in-class SDH wireless technology, and a full set of network implementation services ranging from network engineering, installation and commissioning to training and three years of maintenance. Claro will use Alcatel’s solutions to expand its existing microwave backbone and capillary networks.
“Alcatel’s strong position in the SDH long distance microwave market in Peru and its offer of local services and project management support were key in our choice of Alcatel as a partner”, said Humberto Chávez, General Director of Claro Peru.
“With this project Alcatel is consolidating its presence as the main wireless transmission systems provider in the Peruvian market,” added Luis Martinez Amago, President of Alcatel Wireless Transmissions activities. “Alcatel’s microwave radio solution will enable Claro to extend services to a broader territory and customer base.”
The robustness, reliability and scalability of the Alcatel 9600 LSY solution make of it the preferred choice for operator backbones. The Alcatel 9600 LSY platform is part of Alcatel’s comprehensive microwave portfolio that includes IP solutions. These allow for spectrum optimization by handling more traffic in the same bandwidth to protect customers’ long-term investment.
Alcatel’s robust portfolio of point-to-point wireless transmission solutions includes low, medium and high capacity microwave radios for voice, video and data (IP, ATM, Fast Ethernet) communications. Supporting a full range of frequency bands and network configurations, Alcatel’s wireless transmission systems are managed by a unified and fully integrated network management platform, as well as through the simplified network management protocol (SNMP). Alcatel has installed more than 400,000 microwave radios in over 150 countries.
