Launches first multipath, modular HD converter, IP streaming and more

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 8, 2006 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) is introducing several new high-definition (HD) products in its NEO™ and 6800+™ modular processing platforms at IBC2006. The new modules and their advanced features further broaden the industry-leading Harris HD processing portfolio to meet every potential application, budget and requirement.

The new Harris HD processing products include the following:

* The XHD-3902-M is the industry’s first true, multipath, modular, HD up/down/cross converter.

* The XHD6800+ and HUC6800+ modules provide broadcast- and utility-quality upconversion options within the exceptional-value 6800+ core processing modular platform.

* The HMX6808+/HDX6808+ set a new standard, providing eight AES and audio metadata HD/SD-SDI multiplexing or demultiplexing functionality on single-card sets.

* The QSEE6800+H module provides cost-effective signal monitoring, converting eight channels of auto-detecting HD/SD signals into an IP stream of thumbnails and MPEG-4 video. (See “Harris Corporation Introduces New Q-SEE™ HD/SD Customizable System Monitoring Products,” September 8, 2006.)

“Harris has clearly established itself as the leader in HD processing by offering the most advanced and broadest range of products in the industry,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. “Our newest introductions not only extend our offering, but also provide customers with HDTV processing solutions that previously didn’t exist in the market. With modular and standalone options, advanced and utility applications, single- and multi-function modules and quality conversion at every price point, Harris is definitely the industry’s one-stop-shop for HD processing.”

Leveraging the powerful HDTV conversion engine of the award-winning X75™HD multiple-path converter/synchronizer, the XHD-3902-M provides powerful HD conversion quality and flexibility in a cost-effective modular form factor. The XHD-3902-M can be configured to distribute a single HDTV signal to both of its HDTV conversion engines for simultaneous down- and cross-conversion. In addition, it can be configured to simultaneously up/cross/down convert, in any combination, including simultaneously upconverting two independent SD signals. The XHD-3902-M offers integrated video and audio processing and user-configurable aspect ratio conversion and picture positioning. It also provides a dual input protection switch that switches to secondary inputs in the event of a failure of the primary SDI signal. Also new in all NEO™ XHD modules is support for DVB teletext to enable closed captioning during HD conversion.

The XHD6800+ broadcast-quality upconverter and the HUC6800+ utility upconverter both support commonly used 1080i and 720p formats at various frame rates, provide a variety of aspect ratio selections from several common preset ratios (16:9 Anamorphic, 16:9 Cut, 14:9, 4:3, Pixel True) and allow user-configuration of custom aspect ratios. Both modules use 10-bit video processing to upconvert an SDI input and provide up to four copies of the upconverted output. They also process two groups of embedded audio in the SDI input and delay them accordingly for output in the HD-SDI signal. Both modules process closed-captioned data from the input and pass it to the HD-SDI outputs, and both are able to translate closed captioning from EIA-608 to EIA-708 standards. The XHD6800+ architecture also supports Active Format Descriptor (AFD) pending SMPTE standardization. In addition, the HUC6800+ can be field-upgraded into the XHD6800+ with a software key as customer needs evolve.

Because HDTV requires greater audio support, the HMX6808+/HDX6808+ modules are designed to deliver unprecedented and superior audio handling capability and capacity for current and future audio requirements. Featuring auto-detecting of HD/SD video as standard, HMX6808+/HDX6808+ modules provide a seamless upgrade from SD to HD and are ideal for mixed-format SD/HD infrastructures.

All NEO™ and 6800+™ HD processing products can be remotely monitored and controlled by Harris CCS Navigator™ software over industry-standard Ethernet networks, or by the new NUCLEUS™ user-configurable network control panel.
