TestAmerica to Present at the 18th Annual Energy, Utility and Environmental Conference (EUEC)

WEBWIRE

The EUEC conference will be held February 16-18, 2015 in San Diego, California and is the largest professional and educational event focused around regulations, monitoring and technology in the Power and Utilities Industry sector.

TestAmerica has served the North American Utility Industry for decades with significant collaboration in the Industry’s key technical forums; Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and Utilities Solid Waste Activities Group (USWAG). TestAmerica was the first and only commercial laboratory firm in the US to introduce the Leaching Environmental Assessment Framework (LEAF) group of methodologies for this Industry and pioneered the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) complex wastewater matrix analysis technique.

Dr. Richard Burrows, TestAmerica’s Corporate Technical Director will be giving a presentation on “A New EPA Endorsed Method for the Analysis of FGC Wastewaters by ICP/MS”. The presentation outlines development of an ICP/MS method utilizing aerosol dilution, discrete sampling, and interference removal by kinetic energy discrimination collision cell technology that provides a straightforward and rugged approach to the analysis of this complex wastewater matrix. The presentation also focuses on air quality regulations for most coal fired power plants, which require SO2 scrubbing and the resulting formation of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) wastewaters.

Dr. Burrows is a Corporate Technical Director for TestAmerica. His duties include implementing new technology, improving existing methods, and leading technical groups within TestAmerica. He has been actively involved with environmental methods and techniques through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) organizations. His work has involved bringing new perspectives to method detection limits (MDLs), calibration, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), and method development. Dr. Burrows is currently Chair of the TNI Chemistry Expert Committee, and is twice recipient of the ACIL Preston Millar Award. Dr. Burrows received his B.S. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Bristol, in England.
