Fidelity®’s iPhone® App Helps People Invest in the World Around Them
Using an iPhone’s Location Service, Investors Can Now Discover Public Companies Nearby and Trade in Real Time. Fidelity Also Responds to Customers with Feature Enhancements to Mobile Trading, Mobile Check Deposit and Voice.
Fidelity Investments® has introduced Stocks Nearby, a new visual way for users of its iPhone® brokerage app to generate investing ideas. Created by Fidelity Labs, the company’s center for innovation, the feature enables investors to discover public companies as they view their present location, then pull up a quote and conduct additional research directly in the Fidelity Mobile® app.
“As the investing maxim goes, buy what you know,” said Velia M. Carboni, senior vice president, mobile channel at Fidelity. “The Fidelity Stocks Nearby tool enables investors to immediately research businesses that show promise – on the go. Imagine an investor coming upon a store that is packed with customers – with Stocks Nearby they can easily begin to answer the question if it’s a good investing opportunity.”
Many businesses are owned by lesser-known parent companies, but in many cases Fidelity’s iPhone app will display the ticker symbol so investors can conduct additional research and make smarter investing decisions. The app lets investors trade stocks, options, mutual funds and ETFs. This means if they if they have an idea inspired by a nearby business they can buy, sell and even execute option trades to take advantage of the idea.
All of Fidelity’s mobile apps now support single- and multi-leg option trades and trading of specific shares. “These are complex trades, but we have designed intelligent trade tickets so that a customer’s experience on that small screen is streamlined and expedient,” said Carboni.
Mobile Check Deposit Available in More Account Types
Based on the popularity of mobile check deposit – in just the last year, the number of mobile check deposits increased 35 percent1 -- Fidelity has opened up this functionality to more account and transaction types, including businesses, corporations, rollovers, 529s and more. Now there are no account minimums to be eligible for mobile check deposits, which means, for example, an investor can open a Fidelity account and fund it with mobile check deposit. This can save driving time and/or stamps for investors looking to open or contribute to an IRA during this busy tax season. Fidelity’s iPhone, iPad® and AndroidTM mobile apps have all been updated with the new mobile check deposit functionality.Updates Focused on Ease of Use & Customer Feedback
To help users navigate, give feedback and more easily access their investments, Fidelity also updated its apps with:
- Voice Assistant: use voice functionality to navigate, get balances, conduct stock quote transactions, set alerts and add stocks to Watch Lists (Android only).
- Feedback: give feedback about the app by selecting Give us Feedback from the menu (new to iPhone and iPad).
“The number of mobile trades on Fidelity’s apps increased more than 36 percent2 in the last year, so there is great appetite for innovative features like Stocks Nearby, and we’ll continue updating our apps to be indispensable tools for our brokerage customers,” said Carboni.About Fidelity Investments
