IHG Joins Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Initiative with Cleanliness Drive in Jaipur
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s largest hotel chains by number of rooms, kicked off their participation in the national Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative with a cleanliness drive in the heritage city of Jaipur yesterday.
Translated to mean “Clean India Mission”, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign initiated by the government of India in working towards the national vision of a “Clean India” by 2019. As a responsible business with the objective of developing sustainable communities in South West Asia, IHG has planned a series of events for 2015 in support of the national campaign.
The hotel company launched its year-long cleanliness drive at the renowned garden, Ram Niwas Bagh, in the Pink City of Jaipur yesterday. In a great show of support, the drive was led by the Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan Smt. Krishnedra Kaur, and saw the participation of 21 General Managers across IHG hotels in South West Asia, along with the company’s leadership team, in cleaning the park.
Shantha De Silva, Head of South West Asia, IHG, said: “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a great initiative for the nation and as a leader in our industry it’s our responsibility to showcase the best of India to the world. Supporting this national campaign is also in line with our focus of being a responsible business, which is part of our DNA and at the heart of everything we do. We have an exciting line up of activities for 2015 which will draw our colleagues from the corporate office and hotels together and we look forward to helping to bring the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Initiative to life through our reach in South West Asia"
