The book starts with an introduction that contains the firsthand account of Amanda’s experience with her anxiety disorder. Across the next sixteen sections she takes readers step by step in her healing process, from getting started by understanding anxiety and overcoming your initial fears to strengthening your inner resiliency by increasing your confidence. She shares the exact techniques she used herself that yielded positive results.
When talking about why she believes this book is unique, Amanda says, “There are a number of anxiety self-help books out there that offer advice, yet anxiety still affects forty million people in the U.S. alone. When I was initially struggling with anxiety, I desperately wanted to fix it, but I never took action because I didn’t know where to start, and I thought I could never make it better. I think a large part of the problem is we often view anxiety as the enemy. However, once I developed a curious approach and began to learn from it, that’s when I achieved profound self-transformation, and ironically, when my anxiety began improving! After several years of trial-and-error and travels to learn traditional methods in India and Nepal, I found a process that worked for me. This was my driving force for writing this book; to be able to provide other anxiety sufferers with a clear, step-by-step method I wish I would have had when I was going through anxiety. I wanted to let people know there’s a solution, and you don’t have to suffer. At the time, I was working as a financial consultant in midtown Manhattan.
