Novant Health hires Johnson & Wales University Charlotte campus president

Art Gallagher named vice president of Novant Health Foundation Presbyterian Medical Center and Novant Health community engagement

Novant Health has hired Arthur J. Gallagher as the new vice president of Novant Health Foundation Presbyterian Medical Center and Novant Health community engagement. Gallagher joins Novant Health from Johnson & Wales University where he has served as Charlotte campus president since 2003.

In this newly created position, Gallagher will be responsible for leading the strategic and operational strategies for Presbyterian Medical Center’s foundation, which supports Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Novant Health Matthews Medical Center, Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, Novant Health Orthopedic Hospital and Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. He will oversee a foundation team of eleven.

Gallagher will direct sponsorship activities and fundraising campaigns including the $60 million GroundBreaking Campaign supporting the new heart and cancer outpatient facility. Additionally, he will be actively involved in cultivating relationships with potential corporate donors. Gallagher will report to Paula Vincent, president, Novant Health Foundation and community engagement.

Gallagher has been involved with college life and student affairs issues for more than three decades. His career at Johnson & Wales began in 1999 as vice president of student affairs at the Providence Campus. Prior to Johnson & Wales, Gallagher was associate dean of student life at Brown University in Rhode Island where he was a member of the administration for 24 years.

Gallagher received a bachelor of arts in English and a master of arts in education from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. A leader in community affairs, Gallagher graduated from the Leadership Charlotte Class of 2003, where he was awarded “Newcomer of the Year.” In 2013, he received the Thurgood Marshall College Fund “Award of Excellence.”

Having previously served on the Presbyterian Medical Center board for eight years, Gallagher has a great understanding of Novant Health and its vision for the future. He continues to be very active in the community and currently serves on the boards of Charlotte Center City Partners, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, Charlotte School of Law and Leadership Charlotte.

Gallagher relocated to Charlotte from Foxboro, Massachusetts with his wife, Alice. They have two grown children.
