OESA Generation Auto Video Contest: Supported by Deloitte, Powered by SAE International

WARRENDALE, Pa. – WEBWIRE

OESA and SAE International, with the support of Deloitte, announce a new collaboration for the production of the 2014 Student Video Contest “Generation Auto.” The contest, which is in its second year, encourages college students to pursue careers in the automotive industry.

New for 2014, the contest will invite students who participate in the SAE Collegiate Design Series™ (CDS) in the Formula SAE® Michigan, Formula SAE® Lincoln/Electric, SAE Supermileage® Competition, Baja SAE® Illinois, Baja SAE® UTEP, and Baja SAE® Kansas competitions to create and submit videos no more than two minutes in length highlighting the diverse aspects of the automotive industry that make it an attractive or “cool” industry to work in. Cash prizes will be awarded to the SAE International CDS teams with the top three videos. Prizes will be designated toward the upcoming SAE International CDS competition: Grand Prize: $4,000, second prize $3,000, and third prize $1,000.

Each year, more than 8,000 students participate in the SAE International CDS North American competitions, which provide an opportunity for students to get hands-on with “Extreme Engineering” by going beyond textbook theory to design, build and test the performance of a real vehicle built for competition.

CDS team video submissions can be uploaded to the contest website at http://bit.ly/1A0WhnO starting July 22, 2014 at Noon CST through October 11, 2014 at Noon CST.  Beginning July 25, 2014, the general public is invited to visit http://bit.ly/1A0WhnO and begin voting for their favorite videos. The 25 videos with the most votes on October 11, 2014 will move on to Round 2.

In Round 2, OESA staff will select fifteen videos to go on to Round 3.  Round 2 voting will be based on how well the video portrays what is cool, unique or compelling about working in the automotive industry; professionalism and creativity; overall messaging; and how many votes each video received.

In Round 3, a panel of eight judges will further narrow the field to a total of three videos using the same criteria as used in Round 2.  Judges will be representatives from the automotive industry and will include a “young leader,” a CEO, a representative from Deloitte LLP, and a representative from SAE International.

For the final round of judging, the top three videos will be viewed and voted on by attendees at the OESA Annual Outlook Conference on November 11, 2014. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the voting at the 2014 Conference. See Official Rules for more details.

The collaboration between OESA, Deloitte and SAE International is a natural fit--all three organizations see the critical need for the next generation of innovators in the automotive industry.  The need for a highly skilled and technical workforce has never been greater, and the industry offers a myriad of opportunities for ambitious students who desire a challenging career in a fast-paced industry.
