Tours to the Vatnajokull glacier within the Skaftafell National Park in Iceland are set to reopen in June for the 2014 summer holiday season.
The Skaftafell National Park is an area of extreme natural beauty filled with breathtaking scenery, rugged mountains, beautiful glaciers, alongside a vast variety of plants and wildlife.
Europe’s largest ice cap Vatnajokull is located within the national park’s boundaries. The glacier’s peak, Hvannadalshnjukur, is the highest peak in Iceland, standing at 2.110 metres.
Additionally, the Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon is at the edge of Vatnajokull, and is one of Iceland’s greatest wonders. The lagoon is home to epic glacial formations and a bunch of curious seals waiting to greet visitors.
Tour provider in Iceland Reykjavik Excursions is offering a Skaftafell National Park guided tour between June and August. During the tour, travellers will be able to explore the national park, walking to the mystical waterfall Svartifoss, and view the location’s rich wildlife.
