"Our efforts over the past year have resulted in better job satisfaction and knowledge management among our staff, and that has increased the value for our clients." - Ásberg Jónsson

Icelandic travel agency Nordic Visitor received the 2014 Education Award (Menntasproti ársins) on March 3, 2014 at the Education Day (Menntadegi atvinnulífsins) event held by the Confederation of Icelandic Employers, SA (Samtök atvinnulífsins) at the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica Hotel. Over 300 representatives from the local business, political and educational sectors attended the conference, which included discussions about education in the workplace and its benefits for the economy.

Nordic Visitor was one of two companies that received an award for achievements in staff training and continuing education. The jury from SA noted that the company has grown rapidly in a short time, and despite the resulting challenges, it has succeeded in implementing a professional educational policy with clear objectives for staff development.

For this award, SA assessed companies for how well the work environment fostered learning and whether training policies had enhanced companies’ overall competitiveness. The jury also examined methods of promoting education in the workplace and levels of employee participation.

“It is a great honor to be recognized for our progressive approach to education and human resources,” said Ásberg Jónsson, CEO at Nordic Visitor. “Since the beginning of 2012 we’ve doubled the size of our company with new employees, so we decided it was the perfect opportunity to create a formal educational policy. Our efforts over the past year have resulted in better job satisfaction and knowledge management among our staff, and that has increased the value for our clients.”

Among its educational efforts, Nordic Visitor provides in-house training sessions on a variety of work-related topics hosted by both specialist staff members and experts from outside organizations.
