How to Buy an eBook for a Friend

Novelist D. F. Bailey has written a short guide in PDF format for shoppers who want to give an ebook as a gift. The free guide, “How to Buy an eBook for a Friend” is now available on the author’s web site.

The 16-page guide is divided into three parts:

• The “Quick Sheet” is a one-page tip sheet that reveals how to buy any ebook from Amazon in five steps. 
• The “Detailed Guide” leads novice buyers to Amazon’s registration page and shows three ways to buy ebooks on Amazon: by title, author name, or genre. 
• The bonus section provides tips on accessing free books, out-of-print books and books in the public domain. It also contains links to ebook resources and ebook statistics, graphs and charts.

How to buy an ebook?

“Once I started to publish and purchase ebooks,” Bailey says, “I couldn’t believe how accessible all books became. Then I realized that some of my friends didn’t know how to buy an ebook — or how to give an ebook as a gift. I decided to bridge the gap and write this simple guide.”

The guide is free to anyone who registers for Digital Words, Bailey’s newsletter. “Digital Words is my attempt to explain the global shift from print to electronic books from an author’s perspective,” says Bailey. “I’m a hybrid author — someone who published three novels in traditional print format through established publishers — and has now shifted to independent ebook publishing.

“Almost everyone loves buying books for friends. But the cultural shift to ebooks doesn’t mean we should stop this wonderful tradition,” Bailey says. “The fact that it’s so easy — you can buy and send an ebook to anyone with an email address in less than five minutes — means that we can give ebooks to one another throughout the year. And you can do it on a whim.”
