Climate-Related Data to be featured in WSI Max and Fusion products for Broadcast Meteorologists

Andover, MA – WSI, a division of The Weather Company, and Climate Central, announced a partnership to provide climate-related content to television weather forecasters nationwide. Under the deal, Climate Central will provide science content and analyses on weather-related climate trends, which will be distributed via WSI’s Max and Fusion products for broadcast meteorologists.

“In recent years, we are seeing fmore frequent occurrences of extreme weather – extreme heat events, heavy precipitation and flooding, as well as more frequent large tropical storms,” said Mark Gildersleeve, president of WSI. “We want to help on-air meteorologists explain the connection between extreme weather and climate to their audiences.”

WSI is the leading provider of weather forecasting data and graphics packages to the broadcast industry, providing products such as Max and Fusion. Under the agreement, Climate Central’s climate change content will be a feature of the basic subscription packages beginning in July 2013.

“People experience climate change through the weather,” said Paul Hanle, the chief executive officer of Climate Central. “Reaching the public with climate science in local television weather forecasts is a big step forward in accurately communicating climate change science to the public, a core mission of Climate Central.”

“There is demand for objective climate science information within the broadcast weather forecasting community, and making information available through WSI Max and Fusion puts the information at meteorologists’ fingertips,” said David Kenny, chairman and chief executive officer of The Weather Company. “Through this partnership we hope to meet this demand and make climatology an integral part of local TV weather.”
